triage - RNs, LVNs, LPNs, EMTs - Chico 2021

Event Description:

***To register under this category, you must have a current, active license to practice in the state of California as an RN, EMT or LVN.***

Volunteering at a California CareForce clinic is an experience like none other. It will be a full, busy day, but fun and rewarding! We aim to provide our clinic volunteers with the best experience possible. All California CareForce clinics are volunteer-led; we couldn't provide these critical dental, vision and medical services without you! Thank you for spending your time with us!

We also need 10 RNs to arrive early at 5:30am on each clinic day to assist with COVID-19 screenings for both volunteers and patients. If you’re interested in this role, please indicate your interest in the ‘notes’ section of your registration.

Be sure to check your email for a registration confirmation with more, very important details.

If you do not receive a confirmation email, you did not register.

If you need assistance registering, please contact Sarina at or 916-749-4170

We take seriously our responsibility to our volunteers, staff, and patients and as such, have put several COVID-19 safety procedures in place to promote patient & volunteer safety.

Everyone (patients and volunteers) will undergo a COVID-19 screening which includes a questionnaire & temperature check before entering the clinic – if symptomatic, services/entry will be denied and individuals will be referred within their county, or to their public health department, for follow up care.

All patients & volunteers will be required to show proof of vaccination; if not vaccinated, all patients & volunteers must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of receiving care or volunteering – there will be limited testing available onsite for those who are unable to show proof of vaccination or a negative test. If we are unable to test and the patient or volunteer cannot show proof of vaccination or a negative test, they will not gain entry to the clinic.

Other mitigations that will be put in place include:

  • outside patient waiting
  • enhanced infection control protocols
  • social distancing in patient lines
  • partitions around each dental station
  • reduced number of dental stations to ensure adequate spacing between dental chairs
  • significant change in patient flow to reduce the number of patients in the clinic at any one time
  • rental of additional buildings for greater separation of services & social distancing for all attendees
  • availability of appropriate PPE for all services
  • appropriate signage placed throughout clinic venue for education & guidance on preventative measures

  • All volunteers will undergo a COVID-19 screening (questionnaire and temperature check) upon entering the clinic (any volunteer with positive COVID symptoms will not be allowed to enter the clinic and will be referred for follow-up care).
  • All volunteers are required to wear a California CareForce-specified face covering at all times (additional PPE will be provided onsite).
  • All volunteers will be required to have completed a full COVID-19 vaccination series prior to volunteering at the 2021 Chico Clinic – please bring proof of vaccination with you to clinic check-in.
  • If the volunteer has not been vaccinated, the volunteer must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of clinic service.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at

As a medical professional in Patient Triage, you will be:

  • Taking patients' medical histories on the form(s) provided.
  • Checking patients' respiration, pulse and blood pressure
  • Checking patients' blood sugar levels (finger stick)
  • Checking patients' general health
  • Discussing living a healthier lifestyle (if time permits) and/or referring patients to the Health Education table for further information

You will not be:

  • Taking temperatures
  • Issuing medications for ongoing conditions
  • Administering emergency care

Time Commitment: When you sign up to volunteer for a day, we ask that you commit to being there the whole day (6 am - 4 pm). It is extremely important that Patient Triage volunteers arrive on time, as this is the first clinic section all patients visit. If you are assisting with Covid-19 screenings, your start time will be earlier.

Please note, we base the amount of patients we're able to see on the amount of providers we have each day. We are unable to accommodate those who cannot arrive before the orientation time (6:30am). If you must leave early, please make note of that in the 'notes' section of your registration and email Sarina at

All healthcare providers must have a current, active license to practice in the state of California and carry their own malpractice insurance.

Retired professionals are encouraged to volunteer as general volunteers within their service area of expertise.

Students may only participate with prior approval from the Clinic Volunteer Coordinator and supervision from an instructor. If you have questions, please contact Sarina at to see how you can obtain permission to volunteer.

Food and Drink: All food (coffee, water, soda, snacks and lunch) is provided for volunteers on clinic days.

- More information about the food is in your confirmation email.
